State Fair Suggestions

As promised in the Mensagenda, I will be updating the suggestions made by the volunteers working the booth. Final action items will be compiled and recommended to next year’s State Fair chair.

1) Put out a few old bulletins and Mensagenda
What an excellent idea! In the past, the national office had a generic version of the monthly magazine available. One of the suggestions was to laminate a couple of copies of these publications for review. A few copies of the calendar will be laminated to show what kind of activities our group has.

2) More handouts/display items? FF handout, for instance
We are always looking for ideas. We are planning to survey to all the volunteers. Please take this opportunity to provide any additional feedback regarding the materials we are using.

3) Name tags
This idea can be considered for next year.

4) Copies of toothpick puzzles, teachers ask for these
It would be unrealistic to provide copies of the toothpick puzzles. We could provide a small sign for the table saying something like “Find more toothpick puzzles online by googling ‘toothpick puzzles’”.

5) A small, concise handout with basic contact information—website, Mensaphone-maybe business card size?
Members of the board indicated we once had a small, concise handout with basic contact information. We will look into the feasible of getting it produced.

6) Bigger font for the toothpick puzzle directions
Thank you for the suggestion. In putting together the State Fair chair manual, a recommended font size can be defined.

7) Bigger font for the question board and shorter questions
Thank you for the suggestions. We will work to put together guidelines for developing the questions for the quiz board as well as the recommended board and font size.

8) Hand out Tootsie Rolls
We will investigate the feasibility of having some type of candy handout.

9) Have questions in Braille
At this time, we are unable to have questions in Braille.

10) Put Booth Schedule in book
Yes. It should have been there. It was an oversight by myself.

11) Offer t-shirt as reward for working at the booth. Wear the t-shirts when working.
We will investigate the feasibility of offering t-shirts as a reward. Currently, we are providing the ticket for working at the booth.

12) Get all the tables the same size next year?
During the survey, please provide some more details so we can address the suggestion correctly.

13) Proofread the quiz board. Some errors were found.
I apologize for the mistake. Apparently, my proofreader and myself missed it.

14) Also proofread “what is Mensa” handout for Annual Gathering typo
We will look into the handout and make corrections for next year.

15) Basket with sign saying if you are interested….
Great idea! We will try to get that in place before the end of the fair.
