Local Scholarship Program

Each year the American Mensa Education and Research Foundation makes available more than $50,000 in scholarships.

Any student who intends to be enrolled in an accredited U.S. institution of post-secondary education for the fall term of 2008-2009 is eligible to enter the scholarship contest.

Awards will be made on the basis of an essay of fewer than 550 words that describes the applicant's career, vocational, or academic goal toward which the scholarship is to provide aid.

Entries will be judged and awarded at three levels: local, regional, and national.

Fill out the application form and send it in with the essay to your local Mensa group. Full application instructions can be found on the form.

Completed applications and essays must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2008.

There are several ways to get the application form. It can be downloaded from here.  It will ask for the ZIP code of your home address. The field must be filled in correctly so that you get the correct form.

Minnesota residents and some Western Wisconsin residents can receive the application form through U.S. mail. Send a self-addressed, stamped, business-size envelope to the address below. Mailed requests for applications must be postmarked no later than December 31, 2007.

Or check with the guidance counselor at your high school. A copy of the form has been sent to some area high schools.

The form has all of the information you need to enter the scholarship contest. Follow them carefully - entries are rejected for what may seem trivial reasons .

Several specialized scholarships are listed on page 2 of the form. Check the ones that apply to your goals and situation. If they’re not checked, you won’t be considered for those special scholarships.
