When you cannot meet in person, what is the solution? Meet virtually. That started Second Friday back in May 2020. Even though we can meet in person again, meeting virtually is a great option. And it’s the only one for members who live away from metropolitan areas, have travel challenges, don’t want to go out in subzero weather, etc.

We’re experimenting with different format ideas and the first thing we’re trying is with both focused and open discussions. After a brief welcome and introductions, we’ll discuss an article to read ahead of time. We’re starting off this month by talking about Body Mass Index. Yes, that BMI computation your doctor might do, the chart on the wall classifying overweight and obesity by BMI, and so on. The February focused discussion article is from Scientific American and is at https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/now-there-are-betterways-than-bmi-charts-to-assess-health-risks/. It’s a short read.

As the focused discussion winds down, we’ll move into an open discussion. Mensa conversations tend to offer tangents. Perhaps we’ll will explore those that came up when discussing BMI. Perhaps someone has something of interest to offer. Come on “out” (well … stay inside where it’s warm) and see.

When: Friday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m.
